BOLD Leadership Institute Launch Was A Resounding Success

The 2019 Black-male Orientation to Leadership Development (BOLD) Conference was recently held in Columbus, Ohio. Hosted by Leadership At Its Best In partnership with Making A Difference Foundation, Who’s Who In Black Columbus and the Sigma Community Reinvestment Foundation, the standing room only event was a resounding success.

“We thank the Greater Columbus Convention Center and its General Manager John Page, the sponsoring host, for the BOLD Conference,” said Dr. Carter D Womack, President and CEO of Leadership At Its Best. “The BOLD Conference was a great success,” he added.

The conference was attended by over one hundred young men, parents and male guest from the Columbus, Ohio area as well as Dayton, Ohio. The young men attending ranged from 6th -12th grade.

Featured during the conference were BOLD interactive exhibitors. These young men and parents were required to visits each exhibitor and interact with them. Among the exhibitors were The Ohio State University Upward Bounds, Columbus City Fire, Police and Health Departments, Central State University, Boy Scouts of America, St Clair Community College, Tailored to Fit, Alabama A&M University and the Columbus Sigma Beta Club.

The BOLD Conference focused on the importance of:

  • Working together as young men & teamwork
  • Male Roles and Responsibilities
  • How to deal with conflict without violence
  • Learning about career options in government
  • Learning about college and university offerings
  • Learning and singing The Black National Anthem, “ Life Every Voice and Sing”.

Men’s Wearhouse presented all the young men with neckties and those who did not know how to tie a knot were taught how to do so.

There was also a session which engaged parents on how they can be the best they can be and provided resources that can help them. It afforded them the opportunity to develop the BOLD Parent’s Network

The Columbus, Ohio BOLD Conference was the kickoff for the 12-month BOLD Institute that will start June 2019. The BOLD Institute is titled “10 BOLD Step to SUCCESS.” Each month the young men will cover a different topic. The BOLD Institute will also include field experiences and the young men will be engaged in STEM programs and projects.

The BOLD program aims to assist the boys and young men to always set high expectations, make informed right choices and know that they are BOLD and born to win.
